Goggles
"Then along comes late afternoon--4o'clock? 5o'clock?. . . a time in which she thought of as yellow spent time because if time is to be filled or spent by working, eating, or sleeping, what do you do when you finish and there is time left over?" --Walker Percy

Days 9, 10 and 11
[Well, I got a few days behind. So her are days nine, ten, and eleven.]
"Patients Only"
[Doctor's offices are always so clean and sterile looking, except for the strange art that is usually an attempt to decorate; this one was especially sterile though. There were no pictures hanging in the waiting room. Only the doctor's certificates and other various certifications and awards; except for this red sign on the door].
Cocoa Zin Ice Cream
with Framboise
[My sister gave me a recipe book for Christmas so I had to try it out before I left again for MI. Here is Cocoa Zin Ice Cream: a rich chocolate, wine ice cream which we topped with Framboise. My dad described it as a frozen truffle].
Foms
[I've done a fair amount of thrift store shopping while I've been home and one day I came home with these canvas slip-ons; my brother looked at them and said "How exciting. . . Beige fake Toms. . . or Foms if you will." I decided to give them a little more character after that. . .]

Day 8
Brothers
I did family portraits for some friends today and we drove about an hour and a half into the middle of nowhere and discovered this valley. The boys (all 5 of them) thought the abandoned barns and house were pretty cool; I was mostly excited about the light.

Day 7
La Cafe:
Alone Together
Anna's cafe is about the only place you can get a decent breakfast in my hometown; I met a friend there for coffee this morning and behind me there was this adorable old couple with half the restaurant to themselves. They ate their meal in almost complete silence; simply happy to be with each other on a Saturday morning.
Day 6
Homemade
Well I almost made it a week keeping up with posts. This one's for yesterday: Homemade granola. Shot with my 50mm.

Day 5
Family
My mom wanted a family portrait before Joe and I went back to school. This is a good example of how things typically end up. . .

Ring in the New
Here's to the New Year!
I really only made on resolution this year: to take a photo every single day this whole year.I know it's kind of cheating to start with a picture from my phone, but it may force me to be more creative . . . we'll see.
So here goes. Ringing in the New Year with some Tennyson and creativity.
Tennyson
In Memoriam A.H.H.
106
Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
The flying cloud, the frosty light :
The year is dying in the night ;
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.
Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow ;
The year is going, let him go ;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.
Ring out the grief that saps the mind
For those that here we see no more ;
Ring out the feud of rich and poor,
Ring in redress to all mankind.
Ring out a slowly dying cause,
And ancient forms of party strife ;
Ring in the nobler modes of life,
With sweeter manners, purer laws.
Ring out the want, the care, the sin,
The faithless coldness of the times ;
Ring out, ring out my mournful rhymes,
But ring the fuller minstrel in.
Ring out false pride in place and blood,
The civic slander and the spite ;
Ring in the love of truth and right,
Ring in the common love of good.
Ring out old shapes of foul disease ;
Ring out the narrowing lust of gold ;
Ring out the thousand wars of old,
Ring in the thousand years of peace.
Ring in the valiant man and free,
The larger heart, the kindlier hand ;
Ring out the darkness of the land,
Ring in the Christ that is to be.
